Crosby – the Early Days

Sidney Crosby, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 7, 1987, mastered his hockey skills at a very young age and quickly drew world attention. He was often named ???The Next One??? when he first became a superstar of the NHL, for all his similarities to ???The Great One??? (Wayne Gretzky). Now with less then 10 seasons played in the NHL, he already boasts an extremely lucrative career winning key NHL awards (including the Stanley Cup) and establishing numerous league records. So it is pretty safe to say that Crosby has become one of the most celebrated hockey players in the league of this generation.

On November 22, Crosby took part in the first of what is sure to be many head-to-head duels between himself and Washington Capitals rookie phenomena, Alexander Ovechkin. Sidney scored a first period goal in which he split two Capital defensemen, and then closed in on goaltender Olaf Kolzig, beating the Washington puck stopper with a backhand move very similar to the one which beat Montreal’s Theodore just days prior. Once again, the goaltender’s water bottle was sent skyward.
